Why collect wines as an
investment? Every once
in a while a
"following"
develops for an item
that is in limited
supply. Whether it be
coins, stamps, hot
wheels or old posters,
the value increases as
the
"following"
increases. Each vintage
has a known, limited
quantity of wines
produced adding to its
value. The
"older"
it gets, the more
valuable it gets and
unlike traditional
collectibles, most good
wines
"improve with age".
Marilyn Merlot is now in
that category.

On June 1, 2006, Marilyn Wines celebrated two decades of winemaking history with the release o the 20th vintage of Marilyn Merlot wine. Beginning in 1985 as a playful idea, bringing together the iconic image of Marilyn Monroe and some of Napa Valley's finest Merlot wine, Marilyn Merlot has itself become a legend and is perhaps the most sought-after of all "collectible" wines.
Each new vintage is released on Marilyn Monroe’s birthday, June 1st, and sells out quickly. Collectors have made Marilyn Merlot one of the fastest-appreciating wines on the market, as twelve-bottle sets of the 1985 through 1996 vintages continue to grow in value and are now selling for $7,000. The annual addition of 25% new oak barrels results in aromas of toasted vanilla beans that nicely enhance the plush flavors of the black fruits in the 2001 Vintage". |
