Why
collect wines as an
investment? Every once
in a while a
"following"
develops for an item
that is in limited
supply. Whether it be
coins, stamps, hot
wheels or old posters,
the value increases as
the
"following"
increases. Each vintage
has a known, limited
quantity of wines
produced adding to its
value. The
"older"
it gets, the more
valuable it gets and
unlike traditional
collectibles, most good
wines
"improve with age".
Marilyn Merlot is now in
that category.

When Marilyn Monroe
collaborated with Milton
Greene in his New York
studio in the early
1950's to create a
series of photographs
referred to as the
famous 'Black Sitting',
she enthusiastically
approached the setting
and costumes like an
innocent little girl
playing dress-up.
However, as revealed in
the posed depicted on
the 1996 label, the
expressions that Greene
captured is one of the
most compelling
portraits of Marilyn
ever photographed. |

On June 1, 2006, Marilyn Wines celebrated two decades of winemaking history with the release o the 20th vintage of Marilyn Merlot wine. Beginning in 1985 as a playful idea, bringing together the iconic image of Marilyn Monroe and some of Napa Valley's finest Merlot wine, Marilyn Merlot has itself become a legend and is perhaps the most sought-after of all "collectible" wines.
Each new vintage is
released on Marilyn
Monroe’s birthday, June
1st, and sells out
quickly. Collectors have
made Marilyn Merlot one
of the
fastest-appreciating
wines on the market, as
twelve-bottle sets of
the 1985 through 1996
vintages continue to
grow in value and are
now selling for $7,000. |

Portrait:
This
striking portrait was
created during Marilyn's
first sitting with
Milton Greene at the
20th Century Fox
portrait studio in
Hollywood in 1953. Too
risque to be published
at the time, it's an
elegant match for the
15th vintage of Marilyn
Merlot. |

Testimonials:
The 1996 Marilyn Merlot
is blended from Napa
Valley grapes: 80%
Merlot, 15% Cabernet
Franc and 5% Cabernet
Sauvignon. Somewhere
between ruby and garnet
in color, it has the
aroma of a ripe plum
with hints of black
olive, currant and mint.
Oak aging contributed a
pleasant dusty character
and a subtle suggestion
of walnut and clove.
This Merlot is very
youthful with crisp,
beautiful fruit. In the
mouth, the predominant
flavor is plum with a
long finish and mild
tannins.
